Ministry of Agriculture and Lands
Chemistry (toxicology) Section
Mineral and vitamin
deficiencies are considered to be significant factors
affecting livestock production in British Columbia.
This laboratory section emphasizes mineral and
vitamin analyses, particularly copper, zinc, iodine,
selenium, vitamins A, B12 and folate, D3, E, and beta carotene, to assist
producers in balancing these nutritional factors.
Toxic agents such as strychnine, metaldehyde, ethylene glycol, cyanide, lead, arsenic, mercury, nitrates, fluoride, and organophosphates (by acetylcholinesterase activity) are also detected in this section.
