
This website is maintained by the Crown Land Restoration Branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands (MAL) of the Province
of British Columbia. The Province has provided indemnification
for environmental liabilities to the successor companies of the
mine operators, in exchange for $30,000,000. Using this money,
the Crown Land Restoration Branchhas taken on the task of remediation
at the Britannia Mine site. The focus of the remediation program
is the water treatment plant (WTP) to treat contaminated mine
water.
The Ministry of Environment has been
acting as the regulator with respect to environmental laws under
the Waste Management Act. Links to other websites, including
