Britannia Mine

Remediation Summary

The Province has contracted Golder Associates Ltd. as Project Manager to oversee implementation of the initial remedial actions for the Britannia Mine Site.

The initial remedial actions primarily consist of investigations necessary to develop an Overall Remediation Plan. These investigations have been conducted under four main contracts.

  • AMEC - Water Treatment Plant Feasibility Assessment Contract (CLM02-60)
  • SRK / Klohn Crippen - Mine Hydrogeology Investigation Contract (CLM02-18)
  • Water Management Consultants - Flood Risk Assessment (CLM02-18a)
  • URS - Contaminated Sites Investigation Contract (CLM02-20)

As of 2003, the investigation phase is complete, and the project has moved into the implementation phase of the remedial activities. Reports, remediation plans, project updates, project schedules, and submissions to the Regulator for the Ministry of Environment, can be found on the Reports Page.

As of January 2005, the project has proceeded to the final design and construction phase of the Britannia Mine water treatment plant (WTP).
