The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Crown Land Restoration Branch, Britannia Mine Remediation Project, was awarded the Premier’s Award in the Partnership category for the innovative public private partnership agreement with EPCOR Britannia Water Inc. for the Britannia Mine Water Treatment Plant at the 3 rd Annual Premier’s Innovation and Excellence Awards dinner on March 27, 2007. In attendance was Minister Pat Bell; Deputy Minister Larry Pedersen; Assistant Deputy Minister, Grant Parnell; Director, Brian Clarke; Manager, Gregg Stewart; Project Manager, Barry Azevedo; Senior Financial Assistant, Rhonda Hunt; Administrative Assistant, Susan Harrigan; and Program Technician, Chantelle Abanilla.

On November 20, 2006, the Canadian Council for Public Private Partnerships awarded the Britannia Mine water treatment plant Gold in Infrastructure for the 2006 National Awards for Innovation and Excellence. This recognition of partnerships was between the EPCOR Britannia Water Inc. team (including Lockerbie Stanley Inc., Stantec Consulting Ltd., Canadian Environmental and Metalurgical Inc., and BIOTEQ En vironmental Technologies Inc.), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands. Partnerships B.C. played a key role in the management of the procurement process and in negotiations of the project contract.


On November 16, 2006, the Fraser Basin Council awarded the Britannia Mine water treatment plant the 2006Caring for Ecosystems Sustainability Award. The Britannia Mine water treatment plant was honoured for its significant improvement to the fisheries habitat and aquatic habitat in Howe Sound.
