Black Cherry Aphid
Myzus cerasi (Fabricus)

Black cherry aphid colony on sweet cherry leaf

Life Cycle: Overwinter as eggs on host. Eggs hatch at bud burst and young aphids infest blooms and later, growing tips. In July and August, they migrate to summer hosts and return to lay overwintering eggs. Several generations produced per year.

Monitoring: Inspect shoot leaves for infestations and presence of predators. Presence of sticky honey dew also indicates their presence.

Hosts: Cherry.

Comments: The colonies tend to concentrate on growing tips and often cause little fruit damage on mature trees.

Body length: Adult - 4.0mm; Mature nymph - 3.7mm
