Cherry Fruitworm
Grapholitha packardii (Zeller)

Cherry fruitworm larva feeding inside cherry

Life Cycle: Overwinter as mature larvae on host. Pupate in spring; moths emerge in early June. Eggs are laid on fruit in which larvae feed to maturity. One generation per year.

Monitoring: No monitoring method has been developed.

Hosts: Cherry.

Comments: Larvae are white to pink caterpillars with distinct black heads. They should not be confused with western cherry fruit fly larvae that have tapered maggot-like bodies with no legs or distinct head. Excreta found at the feeding site and brown trails under the skin indicate the presence of cherry fruitworm larvae.

Body length: Adult - 5.0mm; Mature larva - 7.0mm
