Peach Tree Borer

Life Cycle: Overwinter as larvae at base of tree; active in spring and mature in June-July. Moth present mid-June to mid-September. Eggs hatch in September. Up to 50% of the larvae take two years to mature. One generation per year.

Monitoring: Monitor male moths with pheromone traps. Inspect base of host trees for signs of larval feeding damage.

Hosts: Peach, apricot, cherry, prune, plum, chokecherry, and related ornamentals.

Comments: Presence of reddish brown excreta mixed with jelly-like gum at the base of trees indicates borer attack.

Body length: Adult - 20.0mm; Mature larva - 25.0mm
