Plumeless Thistle (Carduus acanthoides)

  • biennial taprooted thistle growing to 1.2 metres tall; stems with spiny wings extending right to the flowerheads; purple flowers; flowerheads small, less than 2.5 cm broad

  • can hybridize with nodding thistle (Carduus nutans) when growing together
