The purpose of the Columbia Basin Trust Act is to promote and create long-term jobs and investment in the Columbia-Kootenay region. It addresses the long-term needs of the people of the region whose interests and desires were not adequately considered in the original negotiations of the Columbia River Treaty. The Act creates a regional corporation to ensure that benefits derived from the Columbia River Treaty will help to create a prosperous regional economy with a healthy, renewed natural environment.
