Land Title Act

RSBC 1996, Chapter 250

This legislation governs the registration of all land transactions in British Columbia. The registration process is based on the Torrens system. Evidence of the right to land is done by a registered indefeasible title, which includes the name of the owner and the names of any others that may have interest in the property. These interests may include mortgages, agreements for sale, covenants, rights of way, easements, leases, and any certificates of pending litigation. The geography of the Province is divided into land districts. Currently, there are 4 land title offices in the Province.
