Milk Industry Act

RSBC 1996, Chapter 289

The Act provides for an inspection system to ensure that standards of sanitation are adequate, and places certain restrictions on milk vendors. Provisions creating and dealing with the Milk Board were repealed by the Milk Industry Amendment Act, S.B.C. 1989, Chapter 70, and the Milk Marketing Board was established under the Natural Products Marketing Act. That amending Act also provided for a single classification of dairy farm which is tied to the end use of milk. The Milk Industry Act ensures that all milk, with the exception of raw milk used in the production of certain specialty cheeses, be pasteurized.

[Note: The Milk Industry Amendment Act, 1997 (SBC 1997, c. 9) amended the legislation to increase the involvement of the dairy industry in the delivery of services while continuing to provide safe and wholesome milk. Other provisions not directly relating to safe milk were also repealed. These amendments have not yet been brought into force.]
