This Act provides for the establishment, classification and management of provincial parks and recreation areas dedicated to preservation of the natural environment for the inspiration, use and enjoyment of the public. Parks are designated either by the schedules to the act or by regulation (order in council). Under the Act, the Minister has the decision-making powers to issue park use permits to applicants wishing to conduct commercial enterprises in a park (including those, which operate and maintain campgrounds on behalf of BC Parks). The Minister may also issue park use permits to remove natural resources from a park - as long as removal is necessary to preserve or maintain the park and appoint a board to oversee operations of a Class C park.
