Canadian Pesticide Labels


Having access to up-to-date pesticide label information helps applicators plan, select the correct pesticide, check the status of a pesticide, and find information on pesticide labels. The labels of all pesticides registered for use in Canada are on Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) website at the link shown below. The complete text of the labels, including the pamphlets attached to the labels, can be read at this site:

How to search the PMRA Label Site:

Three ways to search the Pest Management Regulatory Agency website for a specific label are described below. If you need more information on searching the site, go to the site and click on the “How to search product information” link.

1. If you know the active ingredient or trade name or PCP #:

  1. Under “Search field”, click on the dropdown arrow beside “Select Field”. Select either active ingredient, product name (trade name) or registration number, depending on what information you have.

  3. Under “Criteria”, type in the corresponding information. For example, if the Search Field column says “Product Name”, type the trade name of the label you want under “Criteria”. Be sure you spell the name right.
  4. You may narrow the search by selecting specific marketing type(s) or registration status options.

  5. Scroll down the page and click on “Submit”.

  7. A table will appear listing the registration number, registrant, product name, and registration status. Click on the registration number (PCP #) to see the whole label in PDF format*.
  8. To find a specific word on the label, use the built-in search function of your web browser software. For example, in Internet Explorer, you may access the "search PDF" option by clicking on the binoculars.  Write the word in the blank beside “Find What”. Click “Find” and the word will be highlighted on the label.

2. If you are looking for a certain crop or pest, but do not know the specific pesticide:

  1. Ignore the “Search Field, Operator and Criteria” and go directly to “Search Full Contents of E-Labels”.
  2. Type the word(s) you are looking for in the blank beside “ Full-Text”. You may use boolean operators (and, or, and not) and wildcards (*,?) to build your search strategy. The help link on the website will bring you to more information on how to search effectively.

  4. Click on the 'Submit Search Requirements' button.
  5. A table will appear listing the registration number, registrant, product name, and registration status. Click on the registration number (PCP #) to see the whole label in PDF format*.
  6. To find a specific word on the label, click on the binoculars  (see 1.f. above for more detail) and write the word in the blank beside “Find What”. Click “Find” and the word will be highlighted on the label.

3. If you know some information on the pesticide and are looking for a specific crop or pest:

  1. Under “Search field”, click on the dropdown arrow  beside “Select Field”. Select either active ingredient, product name (trade name) or registration number, depending on what information you have.
  2. Under “Criteria”, type in the corresponding information. For example, if the Search Field column says “Product Name”, type the trade name of the label you want under “Criteria”. Be sure you spell the name right.

  4. Go to “Search Full Contents of E-Labels”.
  5. Type the word you are looking for in the blank beside “Full-Text”.
  6. Click on submit.
  7. A table will appear listing the registration number, registrant, product name, and registration status. Click on the registration number (PCP #) to see the whole label in PDF format*.
  8. To find a specific word on the label, click on the binoculars  Binoculars symbol(see 1.f. above for more detail) and  write the word in the blank beside “Find What”. Click “Find” and the word will be highlighted on the label.

*The Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view PDF files. This program may be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe web site (www.adobe.com).
