Completed Agricultural Area Plans, Strategies & Studies
Historically, as BC's urban population steadily increased, planning activity focused on the many challenges of building the province's towns and cities. All too often, farming areas and agricultural issues were left on the margins of planning processes. This was the case, despite the emergence of the farmland preservation program (ALR) in 1973 and the importance of agriculture as an economic engine.
Today, local governments across the province are placing a "planning spotlight" on their farm areas through a broad range of initiatives - one being agricultural area plans and strategies.
