Planning for Food
![]() |
On June 21, 2006, the Post World Congress Seminar Planning for Food was held in Vancouver. This inaugural event examined the important issues of preserving farmland and planning for agriculture within our expanding urban communities.
With the world's urban population expected to reach 5 billion by 2030, urbanization poses many challenges; one of which will be to maintain our farming systems and land base in order to feed our rapidly growing urban population.
The Planning for Food seminar brought together agricultural land use specialists and food systems planners from across Canada, as well as Australia and Sri Lanka, to share their knowledge on farmland preservation programs and planning tools that can be used to ensure agriculture and food remain a valued part of the urban fabric.
